Sepsis ImmunoScore™, a diagnostic tool designed by Prenosis for early sepsis prediction, has been awarded a BARDA contract to demonstrate its clinical value.
Prenosis Inc., an artificial intelligence company enabling precision medicine in acute care, has been awarded a BARDA contract for studying the utility of its Sepsis ImmunoScore™, a pathogen-agnostic, host-based digital diagnostic tool for the early detection of sepsis.
The contract is allocated to a clinical study of the Sepsis ImmunoScore™ with the objectives to assess the feasibility of implementing the Sepsis ImmunoScore™ in hospitals. Prenosis’ Sepsis ImmunoScore™ uses AI/ML to assess a patient's risk of sepsis within 24 hours based on protein biomarkers and clinical parameters. Prenosis has built a large, rapidly growing biobank and hybrid biomarker-clinical dataset from patients with sepsis and other infections. By leveraging Aidbox as a FHIR backend platform, Prenosis transformed this comprehensive information into a practical tool that has the potential to enable optimized and personalized care for patients.
Sepsis, a life-threatening systemic response to infection, is estimated by the WHO to cause 1 in 5 deaths worldwide. In the United States alone, the annual cost for sepsis treatment nears a staggering $62 billion, marking it as one of the largest cost drivers for U.S. hospitals.
The Sepsis ImmunoScore™ seamlessly integrates with existing Hospital EHRs and utilizes Aidbox’s data integration and management capabilities with the potential to empower physicians to diagnose sepsis faster and begin treatment sooner. This diagnostic tool generates a sepsis risk score, assigns risk categories, and provides extra information. This data can be easily accessed through a hospital's electronic medical record system (EMR) or a user-friendly web interface.
The next important step in popularizing and integrating the Sepsis ImmunoScore™ is to demonstrate its practical benefits in a clinical setting. The BARDA award will fund a study conducted at three hospitals, where the implementation of the Sepsis ImmunoScore™ will be assessed in real-time, evaluating its impact on clinical decision-making and patient outcomes, thereby affirming its value.
"We're pleased to partner with Prenosis on this innovative project that has the potential to change the paradigm of sepsis prediction during the minutes that matter, and, most importantly, save lives," said Pavel Smirnov, CEO at Health Samurai.

Aidbox marks a new step forward in API capabilities, security and built-in modules! Here are the latest updates delivered by our team in January! See the full release notes here.
The C-CDA to FHIR module (beta) offers better performance, fewer bugs and more configuration! You can now select the exact C-CDA sections you need to convert to FHIR and upload to Aidbox. This is done via /ccda/to-fhir and /ccda/persist endpoint configs. Get a more accurate result with the sections you care about and nothing else! We have also introduced support for uploading transformed FHIR bundles to a specific tenant in multi-tenant installations. Try it now
Both Zen Search API and Zen Index API are now considered stable, so you can start using it in your systems today!

With Zen Index API, you can speed up the selected search queries and automatically generate indexes. Learn more about Zen Index API
Aidbox now supports any fhirContext launch parameters for SMART App Launch 2.0. As a result, providers and patients are able to retrieve all the required data from a SMART app based on their respective query and context, i.e. appointment schedule, patient history, treatment plan, etc. The SMART app sends only the targeted requests to the Aidbox FHIR server, drastically reducing unnecessary user interactions. Learn more
The Aidbox SDС module now has the option of redirecting users automatically to external links after submission. The flow is pretty straightforward: when respondents access the form from a portal, they can transition back smoothly after sending all the answers. To use this workaround you need to specify a redirect-on-sign parameter. Learn more about the SDC Forms redirect
You can also add metadata properties to any forms and their templates. This is a great way to group forms by clinic, template author etc. Simply “tag” your forms and filter them according to your preferences. Overall, this makes it easier to organize forms and find what you are looking for at the push of a button. Learn more about the SDC Forms labelling
P.S. The forms library is constantly being updated. For the current list of available forms, visit the Aidbox SDC Forms Library on github.

Good news – Aidbox is in the process of being ONC certified for §170.315(g)(10) - 2015 Edition Cures Update Criteria, and we plan to finalize this process by the beginning of July 2022.
First of all, this should be of interest to EHR vendors in the US because they need to comply with the 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule by December 31, 2022 and provide secure HL7 FHIR® API for patients (third-party apps) and population services on top of their EHRs.
In the process of preparing for certification, we systematized the information and have decided to share our handy cheat sheet (PDF) with you.

Health Samurai team is proud to announce the first stable release of Fhirbase, an open-source tool to store and manage FHIR data in PostgreSQL relational database.
Using SQL with FHIR data is a hot topic, which gained a lot of attention in the FHIR community. It’s been actively discussed on Storage and Analytics trackduring 19th FHIR Connectathon at Baltimore. Amount of interest is not surprising — SQL is a lingua franca for developers, data analytics and users of BI tools. Leveraging it provides a flexible way to transform and measure FHIR data.
Fhirbase by Health Samurai drastically lowers barrier to entry in SQL world with FHIR data. It allows a user to quickly create a database to store resources in and provides functionality to import data from various sources. Fhirbase is well-documented and has an online demo. We even recorded a screencast to show how to install Fhirbase: Fhirbase Installation Screencast.
We hope that Fhirbase will be useful to solve arising challenges in the FHIR community.
