Workshop programme

Participants will work with HL7v2-to-FHIR mappings, German profiles, structured data capture, SQL on FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and CDS Hooks.

01 · Standards, regulation, and EHDS
HL7v2FHIREHDS

An overview of the standards, regulations, and national initiatives shaping health-data exchange in Germany. The session explains the roles of HL7v2 and FHIR, where German specifications fit, and how EHDS and the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format affect future requirements.

02 · Hospital data architecture
CDRSDCOMOP

Draw an end-to-end reference architecture for hospital data integration. The session connects HL7v2 ingestion, the clinical data repository, structured data capture, analytics, OMOP, and European data exchange. This architecture provides the foundation for the implementation work in the following sessions.

03 · German profiles and EHDS
BasisprofileISiKLOINC

Work with the German profiles and terminology systems used across different healthcare contexts. Participants will examine Basisprofile, ISiK, KBV/MIO, and ePA specifications, including layered validation, package dependencies, and version pinning. The session also covers their relationship with European exchange requirements. Terminology covered: ICD-10-GM, OPS, SNOMED CT, LOINC, ATC/PZN, and the Zentraler Terminologieserver.

04 · HL7v2-to-FHIR mapping
HL7v2FHIRCDR

Transform a hospital HL7v2 message into FHIR resources. Participants will examine an open mapping line by line, discuss the implementation decisions behind it, and load the resulting resources into the clinical data repository.

05 · Structured Data Capture
SDCQuestionnaire

Turn a paper form into a working FHIR Questionnaire flow. Participants will define the form, collect a QuestionnaireResponse, and extract the resulting structured clinical data.

06 · Clinical analytics with SQL on FHIR and CQL
MII KerndatensatzSQL on FHIRCQL

Query FHIR data using the patterns applied in German university hospital data integration centres. The session covers the MII Kerndatensatz, SQL on FHIR, CQL, the boundary between aggregate counts and record-level access, and the role of OMOP in downstream analytics.

07 · SMART on FHIR and CDS Hooks
SMART on FHIRCDS HooksIPS

Build and launch a SMART on FHIR application, then connect it to a clinical workflow using CDS Hooks. Participants will return findings through the existing EHR and examine how national conformance requirements interact with EEHRxF and IPS.

In-person finale

The series concludes with an in-person session focused on implementation review, open questions, and exchange between participating teams. The date and venue will be announced separately.
